So… I got Modern Warfare 2 about a week ago (the day after the release, mind you) and I was fairly excited when I got it. Played the first level of the campaign…. and wow, it really wasn’t all that exciting. It basically was a standard shoot em’ up sequence, followed by a short on rails turret sequence. It didn’t entertain me to say to least so I moved onto multiplayer.

That part of the game was great, at least when I started playing it. I hadn’t played CoD4 in a long time, and it felt extremely polished and rewarding. Too bad that didn’t last.

Here we are a week later. I’m only Level 44-ish, and I’m already starting to feel the signs of repetition. I played the hell of out Call of Duty 4 (and World At War, to a certain extent) and while the new killstreaks are nice and all, they really don’t help the game too much. They’re a double edged sword. They do really speed up the combat and make the game more frantic and give it more variety. On the downside though, it basically makes it so that the team that is winning, will win, no matter what.  The deathstreaks make no difference at all. I’m not sure if this has been said before but the new additions change the game, but the core gameplay still feels way too familiar.
Anyways, after finishing the campaign, it was bland. There were some levels that were amazing (the snowstorm one is at the top of this. It was amazing) while others just dragged on and on, and just turned into shooting galleries. It’s been advertised like a movie, and while it is cinematic, it doesn’t excite much (like I said, a couple of level are exceptional in this, especially when the game is nearing the end). The plot… Oh boy the plot…. It’s completely nonsensical… I really couldn’t go into detail about this without spoilers, but just read a synopsis on it, and you’ll realize how freaking crazy it is. They used alot of aspects from the last game, which didn’t really help.
I guess this is a “review” but I really hadn’t gone much in depth. Hype ruins games, to be honest. No matter how good the game actually is, when games like these come out, it’s sure to be disappointing. For example, I was seriously looking forward to the new Smash Bros. game that came out last year. I got it at the midnight release, I was watching the site each week looking for the updates. When it finally came, nothing surprised me, and it left me feeling empty. So next time there’s a game you’re looking forward to, I honestly suggest that you ignore all the hype.

My name is Ryan, and pretty much anything else you need to know about me is that I play video games… alot.  I enjoy games of almost any genre, and I like to try out new games. I enjoy what I do, and I consider it to be a hobby of mine.

Expect rage, rants, all that stuff, especially in the coming weeks (with MW2, and the like recently being released and the games that are coming on the horizon), but I probably will have other random things thrown in there.

I dunno, I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
